6 Steps to Successful Entertaining

Beyonce and mom talk 'crazy' surrogacy rumors

Beyonce Knowles battled rumors during her pregnancy with Blue Ivy Carter that she was not pregnant and that her daughter was being carried by a surrogate. Now the legendary singer and her mother, Tina Knowles, are talking about the rumors.

"That was crazy. It wasn't hurtful, it was just crazy," the 30-year-old told People magazine. "[I thought] 'Where did they come up with this?'"

Beyonce and Jay-Z, who married in 2008, welcomed their daughter on January 7 in a New York hospital. The rapper then released a song about the baby, called "Glory."

Some were doubtful of Beyonce's pregnancy after a clip circulated online where the singer was interviewed for Australia's "Sunday Night" in October. As she sits down for the interview, her dress folds in a way that made people suspect that it was actually a prosthetic baby bump that deflated. The clip can be seen below at the 55 second mark.

"It was a fabric that folded," Beyonce Knowles said. "Does fabric not fold? Oh my gosh, so stupid."

Tina Knowles added that she had a hard time listening to critics about her daughter's pregnancy. "I thought it was very unfair and very cruel that someone would think that someone would be that diabolical to keep up a charade like that for nine months," Tina Knowles told the magazine. "As a mother it was painful for me to hear the crazy rumors. And I even had people ask me, which was so ridiculous."

Earlier this week it was revealed that the magazine named Beyonce Knowles the "Most Beautiful Woman" of 2012. She was the first black celebrity to grace the cover of the magazine's "Most Beautiful" issue in nine years and the second since it began the tradition two decades ago.

"The best thing about having a daughter is having a true legacy," she told the magazine. "The word 'love' means something completely different now."

It was announced in March that the songstress has scheduled her first concerts since giving birth to her daughter.

The singer will perform three gigs in the new beachfront Revel Resort in Atlantic, City, New Jersey between May 25 and May 27, over Memorial Weekend, when the hotel opens to the public officially. Tickets for the concerts, which can seat a little more than 5,000 people, go on sale on April 6.

Jimmy Kimmel jokes on Kim Kardashian and more celebs at White House Correspondents' Dinner - See video

Kim Kardashian was a punch line for jokes from both Jimmy Kimmel and President Barack Obama at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on April 28.

Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, were invited to the dinner by Fox News. Other celebrities who appeared at the event included Lindsay Lohan, George Clooney, Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara.

Both President Obama and Kimmel's speeches at the dinner can be seen below. President Obama opened for Kimmel, beginning with a bit about his microphone being on backstage while he was preparing to greet the crowd.

"I'm the president of the United States and I'm opening for Jimmy Kimmel? I have the nuclear codes," President Obama's voice over is heard. "Why am I telling knock-knock jokes to Kim Kardashian? Why is she famous anyway?"

After President Obama spoke and joked about Hilary Clinton and Mitt Romney, Kimmel took the stage. It was noted that last year's dinner took place as Navy SEALS captured and killed Osama bin Laden.

"If you're looking for the biggest threat to America right now - she's right there," Kimmel said while pointing at the crowd. "Her name is Kim Kardashian."

"She was captured by Greta Van Susteren and brought to your doorstep," Kimmel continued. "You know, when you took office the Kardashians had one reality show. Now they have four. This is not a good trend."

"Right now, Navy Seal Team 6 is outside the Kardashian compound in Beverly Hills disguised as the Denver Nuggets so they can sneak in undetected," he added.

Kimmel pointed about that Sully Sullenberger, the pilot who landed an airplane in 2009 on the Hudson River near Manhattan when the airplane became disabled after hitting a flock of geese, was in the audience. "Sully would you do us a favor? Would you mind driving Lindsay Lohan home," Kimmel joked. "Make sure you don't run into a goose. Especially Grey Goose."

Even Uggie, the dog from the Academy Award-winning film "The Artist" was joked about by the comedian. "Uggie is amazing. He can roll over on command," Kimmel said. "He's a democrat."

Justin Bieber debuts covers for 'Believe' on Twitter - See photo

Justin Bieber took to his official Twitter page on April 27 to reveal to his loyal fan the standard and deluxe edition album covers for his highly anticipated album "Believe."

The album is set to be released on June 19. Bieber can be seen in identical poses on each cover, with the black and white photo used for the standard cover and the color photo for the deluxe version.

The singer released the first single off the album, called "Boyfriend," on March 26. It is Bieber's third studio album.

The singer Tweeted that he had a spur of the moment collaboration with mentor Usher that may be added to the new album.

"LONG MEETING FOR #BELIEVE," Bieber Tweeted on April 28. "Then I got inspired. me and big bro @USHERRAYMONDIVjust made some magic happen. #BELIEVE - swaggy!"

He later wrote, "In the studio and @UsherRaymondIV in the booth and yes...HE IS THE TRUTH!"

On April 29, he admitted he had trouble finalizing the track list for the album. "Picking the songs for #BELIEVE is impossible," he wrote.

During a recent interview with "The Voice" UK host Reggie Yates, Bieber opened up about what fans can expect from the album but became flustered when Yates asked if sex was one of the topics covered.

"I'm singing about things that I'm going through. Songs about, like that girl that said she was going to have my baby," Beiber said, referring to Mariah Yeater.

Yeater filed a false paternity suit in 2011 alleging the pop singer was the father of her baby. The singer Tweeted about her last week.

Yeater dropped her paternity suit against the singer in November. The 20-year-old woman's son was born in July. She had filed her paternity lawsuit against Bieber on Oct. 31, 2011 at a San Diego court, saying that the two had a sexual encounter after one of the singer's concerts in Los Angeles in the fall of 2010.

"I wrote a song about the whole situation," Bieber said. "I wrote songs about like, you know, things that I'm going through. I wrote a song for my mom."

Prince William and Kate Middleton, known as The Duchess of Cambridge, celebrated their first anniversary weekend at the wedding of Middleton's friend.

The royal couple, who tied the knot on April 29, 2011, attended the quiet ceremony of Hannah Gillingham and Robert Carter on April 28, according to Us magazine.

Middleton's sister Pippa was also at the wedding, which was held at St. Andrews Church in Wingfield, England.

After the wedding was over, Prince William, 29, and Middleton, 30, reportedly returned to their home in Anglesey, Wales. The magazine reports that a royal aide said the two have "been looking forward to a very special day at home" for their anniversary.

Earlier this month, Middleton made her Madame Tussauds wax museum debut. The wax museum made three different figures for each royal. The duchess' figures wear three different dresses that are replicas of outfits she has worn in real life at public events.

The company had said last year that it planned to book a meeting between its sculptors and the duchess to create a figure for her. Each one costs about $200,000 and is molded and painted over the course of about four months.

The duchess is considered by many to be a fashion icon was voted as one of the "Most Trusted Celebrities" last year. She also made the list of the Most Desirable Woman of 2012.

'Think Like a Man' remains at the top of the box office, 'The Avengers' a huge success overseas

"Think Like a Man" topped the box office for the second weekend in a row, out earning competitors like the Judd Apatow produced comedy "The Five-Year Engagement" with Jason Segel and Emily Blunt. Meanwhile "The Avengers" builds buzz for its May 4 release in the US after opening with huge numbers overseas.

Last weekend, "Think Like a Man" ended the four-week box office winning streak of "The Hunger Games." This weekend the film took in an estimated $18 million to stay in the top spot. The haul raises the film's domestic total to $60 million, according to the Associated Press.

"Think Like a Man" follows four couples. The women become hooked on TV personality Steve Harvey's 2009 book, "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," and try to use his relationship advice on their guys. In response, the men act to turn the tables on their ladies.

The race for second place is a close one with four films all earning $11 million. When the final totals come in on Monday, the line-up for the films may change but as it stands now the animated family comedy "The Pirates! Band of Misfits," takes the No. 2 spot with $11.4 million.

The movie features the voice of Hugh Grant and follows a band of pirates, whose captain (Grant) is determined to defeat rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) for the Pirate of the year Award.

Zac Efron's "The Lucky One," is in third place with $11.3 million. The movie, based on the Nicolas Sparks novel, has earned $39.9 million in its two weeks of release. Efron bulked up to play a Marine named Logan Thibault, who survived three tours of duty in Iraq. Logan credits his safety to a photograph of a woman he found while in Iraq and sets out to find out who she is. He later discovers the woman is named Beth (played by Taylor Schilling) and he begins working at her dog kennel to try to work up the courage to reveal his story.

In fourth place is "The Hunger Games" with $11.25 million. The blockbuster film's domestic total now stands at $372.5 and it is less than $10 million behind the domestic total for the 2011 film, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2." The finale in the "Harry Potter" franchise earned $381 million domestically.

"The Five-Year Engagement" rounds out the top five films with $11.2 million.

"The Avengers" debuts in the US next week and has so far earned $178.4 million in overseas ticket sales since it launched in 39 countries last week. "The Avengers" has yet to open in other big markets like Japan, China and Russia.

"The Avengers" features characters from the "Iron Man," "Thor," "The Incredible Hulk" and "Captain America" together. Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow from "Iron Man 2" while Downey Jr. returns as Tony Stark / Iron Man. Jeremy Renner plays Clint Barton / Hawkeye and Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury.

Kristen Stewart sports '60s look on ELLE UK magazine cover (Photo, poll)

Kristen Stewart, star of the "Twilight" films" and the new movie "Snow White and The Huntsman," sports a 1960s look on the cover of ELLE UK magazine's June 2012 issue

The 22-year-old actress' hair is slicked back, "Mad Men"-style, while retaining volume, making it appear as if she has a bob haircut. She is wearing a cream Jil Sander spring 2012 knit dress and sports what the magazine dubs an "ice-blue" gaze. The issue is set for release on May 2.

Stewart was seen with her usual long hair on Thursday, April 26, at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures's CinemaCon 2012 event in Las Vegas, where the actress is promoting "Snow White and the Huntsman," which is distributed by Universal Pictures.

Stewart also showcases a new, supernatural look in the upcoming "Twilight" sequel, "Breaking Dawn - Part 2."

The actress plays Bella Swan, a human teenage girl who marries vampire Edward Cullen, portrayed by Robert Pattinson, in the previous 2011 installment. She becomes a vampire after giving birth to their daughter following a rapid and dangerous pregnancy. The second part, which is set to be released in November, sees her adapting to her new life as an immortal. A teaser trailer for "Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" was released in March and features Stewart's character with her new vampire eyes, which are red.

A new official photo from the film shows the actress sporting the same look while standing alongside Pattinson. The image was posted online by the film's studio, Summit Entertainment, on Thursday.

"The thing about 'Part 2' - it's different," director Bill Condon told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "It's like an epic movie. This is vampires from around the world, it's global. You've been watching vampires for four movies now. Now, Bella's a vampire and you get to experience what that's like. What it's like to hunt. What it's like never to sleep. What it's like to have vampire sex. You get that too."

Stewart commands a massive following thanks to the success of the "Twilight" films. Actress Molly Ringwald, who rose to fame with the cult movie "The Breakfast Club" and other 1980s teen films, mentioned her in a recent Q&A "Ask Me Anything" session with fans on the website Reddit.

When asked by a user, "How did you manage to get hotter with age," Ringwald joked: "I drink the blood of Kristen Stewart."

Stewart also stars in the drama film "On The Road," based on a 1950s novel by Jack Kerouac. It is set for release later this year but an official U.S. date has not been announced.

"Snow White and the Huntsman" is due to hit theaters on June 1 and stars Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen. Stewart's character, Snow White, enlists the help of the Huntsman, played by Chris Hemsworth, in a bid to defeat her.

"It's really been awesome to play a young girl who is so human," Stewart said in a video interview to promote the film.

The actress called "Snow White and the Huntsman" a "revenge movie." and says its action scenes will inspire viewers to root loudly for her warrior character.

"'Snow White is innately defensive and so it's always down to that last second ... you're going to throw your drink on the ground and stand and go, 'Yeah!'" she said. "We had so many real explosives going off and that was awesome."

Amy Poehler guest stars on live '30 Rock' episode - Watch

Amy Poehler made a surprise appearance on Thursday night's live episode of NBC's "30 Rock," portraying a younger version of Tina Fey's character Liz Lemon.

Poehler's appearance as an awkward teenage Liz Lemon was the comedic actress' first appearance on "30 Rock." The "Parks and Recreation" star was shown prank-calling a young Jack Donaghey (Alec Baldwin), who was portrayed by Jimmy Fallon.

The live episode, "Live From Studio 6H" was filmed twice for the East and West coasts. The episode featured several flashbacks from previous fictional live shows. Kim Kardashian and Sir Paul McCartney made brief cameos, portraying themselves on the East Coast and West Coast episodes, respectively.

Guest stars also included Jon Hamm, who appeared in a parody of "Amos 'n' Andy" and as a newscaster and "Community" star Donald Glover, who appeared in a flashback as a young Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan). Glover got his start as a writer for "30 Rock" when he was 22 years old.

Many of the guest stars on the special episode were alumni from "Saturday Night Live," including Poehler, Fallon and Fred Armisen.

"30 Rock" began in 2006 and is loosely based on Fey's experiences on the NBC sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live." The show has won 14 Emmy Awards, including "Best Comedy Series." The sixth season premiered on January 12.

Poehler is a former "Saturday Night Live" cast member and has appeared with her former co-star, Fey, in the 2008 comedy "Baby Mama" and the 2004 Lindsay Lohan movie "Mean Girls." Poehler received two Emmy nods for her roles on "Saturday Night Live" was nominated twice for her part on "Parks and Recreation."

Poehler has also starred on shows such as the comedy series "Undeclared" and "Arrested Development," which featured Will Arnett, her husband and father of their two sons.

Rupert Murdoch testifies in UK for second day

AP  by RAPHAEL SATTERLONDON -- News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch said Thursday that he panicked when he closed the News of the World tabloid last year, one of a series of revealing exchanges made at an inquiry into British media ethics.

The 81-year-old media magnate acknowledged that the scandal which erupted at the Sunday tabloid last July was a "serious blot" on his reputation, but claimed his company was drawing a line under the sordid episode.

"I've spent hundreds of millions of dollars" cleaning up News Corp. subsidiary News International, Murdoch told the inquiry. "We are now a new company altogether."

Murdoch's was testifying for a second day at an inquiry run by Lord Justice Brian Leveson, a hotly anticipated appearance which has so far seen the media mogul meet pointed questions about his nexus of political influence and business interests with a wall of denials.

Murdoch largely stuck to the same script Thursday, but a few new revelations tumbled out - along with a strikingly personal admission that he didn't do enough to nip the scandal in the bud.

"I failed," Murdoch said at one point. "And I'm sorry about it."

Pressed on why he closed the News of the World at the height of the scandal, Murdoch said it was an impulse move.

"I panicked," Murdoch said. "But I'm glad I did."

Murdoch also revealed that he was shocked by the size of the 2008 payout made to one of the very first victims of phone hacking to sue News International - testimony at odds with what his son James told the inquiry earlier in the week.

The younger Murdoch said that at the time he had no way of knowing whether the sum was particularly large.

But the elder Murdoch expressed no such doubts.

"The size seemed incredible," Murdoch said. "It still does seem incredible."

His admission was important because critics have pointed to the size of the $1 million settlement - 10 to 20 times larger than a typical payout for breach of privacy - was intended to keep a lid on the scandal.

If James Murdoch knew that the settlement was unusually large when they signed off on it, it would strengthen the argument that he knew that the payout was aimed at hiding wrongdoing.

Overall, Murdoch stuck to the line that he and his son were deliberately kept in the dark about illegal behavior at the News of the World.

"The senior executives were all misinformed, and shielded from anything that was going on there," he told the inquiry. "I do blame one or two people for that."

He didn't name them, but in suggestive comments he identified one of those people as "a clever lawyer" who shared drinks with many of the journalists involved.

The former senior legal officer at the News of the World was Tom Crone, who stepped down within days of the scandal's eruption. His phone rang unanswered Thursday.

Various attempts to reach Crone over the past year have been unsuccessful. The lawyer has previously challenged aspects of James Murdoch's testimony.

Emily Blunt, Jason Segel discuss parents' engagement stories (Video)

Emily Blunt's mother lives up to the actress' last name when it comes to love.

In "The Five-Year Engagement, the British star and Jason Segel play a couple who keep delaying their wedding after being forced to move to Michigan for a job. They talked to OnTheRedCarpet.com about their own parents' less-than-smooth engagement stories.

"My mum asked my dad, 'When are you going to ask me to marry you?'" said Blunt, 29.

"My father proposed to my mother with a cigar band because he couldn't afford a ring at the time," Segel said.

In "The Five-Year Engagement," Segel's character leaves San Francisco to be with his fiance. He and Blunt opened up about their experiences making sacrifices for past relationships. Blunt and "The Office" star John Krasinski wed in 2010.

"I actually always want to do things that you know will mean the world to them, so for me, it's never about not wanting to do it," Blunt said. "I think when you're really in love and you're really happy, the joy I get from doing things that would make him happy is huge."

"I was completely unemployed during my relationship, so I had nothing to put on hold," Segel said. "It was on hold. It was being held."

Segel, 32, who also co-wrote the movie, is currently said to be dating actress Michelle Williams. The actress attended the premiere of "The Five-Year Engagement" at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 18.

Although the couple didn't pose for pictures together, they were spotted cuddling together at an after party. People magazine reported that they were affectionate all night, whispering in each other's ears and exchanging the occasional kiss on the cheek.

Blunt wore a black strapless Jason Wu dress with an embroidered green leaf bodice and matching green Alice + Olivia pumps and Lorraine Schwartz earrings at the event. (See photos from the premiere of "The Five-Year Engagement.")

"Usually its boy meets girl, they don't like each other, then they kind of fall in love and ... that's how it ends and it's predictable. Even though I knew what's going to happen in the end, because I'd read the script, obviously, but when I saw the movie, I thought 'Wow, it's quite ambiguous as to what's going to happen to them and you're not kind of sure,'" she said.

"I think you really see the plight in it for these two and you invest in them, even though its super funny and outrageous, the situations they're put in, I think it's a very real exploration of a relationship and all the ups and downs of it," the actress added.

"The Five-Year Engagement" also stars Alison Brie of "Community" and Chris Pratt of "Parks & Recreation," who add to the film's comedic value.

"We were so lucky with those two because when the four of us had a scene together, it was like my favorite day ever," Blunt said about her co-stars. "There were times where I was just helpless, crying with laughter and unusable in any of my takes because it was a riot, really."

"It truly was the best movie-making experience I've ever had," Segel agreed. "We had so much fun."

Watch a trailer for "The Five-Year Engagement," which hit theaters on April 27, below.

Hugh Grant discusses 'The Pirates! Band of Misfits,' daughter

Hugh Grant was happy to make his first animated film, "The Pirates! Band of Misfits," which he said he hopes his baby daughter will see one day.

"This is pretty much the first time that I've done a cartoon and I couldn't say no," Grant told reporters at the film's New York premiere. "Aardman [Animations] have made nothing but films I've adored - 'Wallace & Gromit' and 'Chicken Run.' The script was peculiarly sort of 'Monty Python'-ish and hilarious to me... Like all Aardman films, they appeal to children and parents simultaneously. There's a lot of falling over, slapstick stuff for the kids and there's actually quite dry, sophisticated stuff for the adults."

The animated film follows a band of pirates, whose captain (Grant) is determined to defeat rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) for the Pirate of the year Award.

"I play Pirate Captain who is just the worst pirate in the world," Grant said of his character. "He's completely inept and his crew are equally useless but they never give up hope - their big ambition is to win the Pirate of the Year Award and this film is their quest to win that."

Grant is known for his roles in films like "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Notting Hill" and "About a Boy." The animation was a welcomed departure for the actor, who was happy to be off-camera for once.

"It was nice and relaxing. I'm too old now to be sitting in makeup at five in the morning," Grant said. "I'd like to just stand in front of a microphone after lunch and overact a little bit."

The film was produced by Aardman, a British animation studio known for films made using clay stop-motion animation techniques. Grant was excited to sign onto the project and is even happier now that he has a child to share it with.

"It's nice to think that one day my daughter may see it, may love it," Grant told People magazine.

The 51-year-old actor welcomed his daughter Tabitha in September with a 32-year-old Chinese woman named Tinglan Hong, with whom the actor had a "fleeting affair," the actor's spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com in a statement.

Though Tabitha's arrival was unplanned, Grant's rep told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the time of the birth that the actor and the baby's mother are on "very friendly terms."

Grant chose his daughter's English name, Tabitha, while her mother chose the Chinese name Jingxi, which means "Happy Surprise," Grant revealed on an April 27 episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

"I can't pretend it wasn't a little bit of a surprise, but it's a very nice surprise. In fact, the baby's name in Chinese, because the mother is Chinese, means 'Happy Surprise,'" Grant told Ellen DeGeneres. "It is life changing... I recommend it. Get some!"

Grant is slated to portray six different villains in his upcoming film "Cloud Atlas," which also stars Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Halle Berry and Susan Sarandon. He is also set to reprise his role as Daniel Cleaver in "Bridget Jone's Diary 3," opposite Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth.

Tia Mowry: I felt sexy after I had my baby (Video)

Tia Mowry and Beyonce appear to have similar feelings about being first-time moms.

Mowry gave birth to her first child, son Cree, in June 2011 and is an author of a new book that offers pregnancy advice.

"I think that being a mom is extremely sexy," Mowry told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith on the set of a photo shoot for Vibe Vixen magazine earlier this week. "I find that a lot of women after they have their babies, they feel empowered - and that's how I am. After I had my baby, I just felt extremely sexy, I mean, you've given life, and it's extremely empowering."

Pop star Beyonce welcomed her first child, daughter Blue Ivy, in January. She made similar comments about motherhood when commenting on her new title as People's "Most Beautiful Woman" of 2012, saying: "I feel more beautiful than I've ever felt because I've given birth. I have never felt so connected and I never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth and never so proud of myself."

The 33-year-old actress married her husband Cory Hardrict in April 2008 in Santa Barbara. She went on to explain how she plans on being a role model for new mothers everywhere.

"I'm a mom now, and I just can't wait to get out there and show that, you know, moms can be hot and sexy too," she said.

Her sister Tamara announced on Wednesday, April 25, that she is expecting her own first child, with husband Adam Houseley.

The Mowry twins rose to fame with the long-running 1990s sitcom "Sister, Sister" and now star in the Style network reality series "Tia & Tamera," which showcased Tia Mowry's pregnancy and weight loss struggle. The show returns for a second season in June.

Aside from her reality show, she also stars in the BET series "The Game." Her new book, "Oh, Baby!: Pregnancy Tales and Advice from One Hot Mama to Another," is set for release on May 15.

While the actress seems to be managing her full plate, she says there's one thing she forgets to make time for - herself.

"I really don't have a lot of 'Me Time,'" Mowry said. "I really have to make way for that. But I feel a little guilty sometimes about having 'Me time.' I don't know why. I feel like if I'm just taking a nap or getting my nails done or getting a massage, I feel guilty. I feel like I should be with my son."

"My husband is always telling me, 'Tia, you really need to just kind of take care of yourself first, and when you give attention to yourself, you make a better mom. A rested mom is a better mom,"" she said. "I do need to work on that more."

John Cusack lost 25 pounds to play Edgar Allen Poe in 'The Raven'

John Cusack not only had to go to a dark place to portray Edgar Allen Poe in "The Raven," he also had to drop some weight to portray the author.

"I thought it would be fun [to drop 25 pounds for the role]. It wasn't fun not eating," Cusack told OnTheRedCarpet.com co-host Rachel Smith at the film's Hollywood premiere. "It wasn't that fun actually, but I thought that. He was a world famous writer but they didn't have copyrights, so he was dirt poor actually. He was always kind of living hand to mouth and had financial troubles all his life and he was an alcoholic, so I thought that would be the best look - to look kind of emaciated and real wiry. It was a fun time. I put myself into everything I do, so I put myself all-in on this one."

"The Raven" follows Cusack's Edgar Allan Poe, who helps a Baltimore detective track down a serial killer after a series of horrific murders mimic the dark writer's works.

The film, which earned $2.5 million in Friday's box office, also stars Luke Evans as Detective Fields and Alice Eve as Poe's love interest, Emily Hamilton.

"Poe's head space and his sort of writing - he always has a sort of romance to the abyss," Cusack said. "It's anguish and it's torment, but he's also exploring what's around that corner and I think he almost had this sort of religious feeling about that twilight between waking and dreaming, between sanity and insanity, between life and death - he always wanted to get to that twilight space - that was his sweet spot - so it was also kind of fun, in a weird way."

Cusack is known mostly for playing "good guy" roles, such as Lloyd Dobler in the 1989 romantic teen comedy "Say Anything" and Rob Gordon in the 1996 film "High Fidelity." He also played an assassin in the 1997 movie "Grosse Point Blank" and starred with Cage in the action film "Con Air."

The 45-year-old actor was happy to go to a darker place for the role of Poe, whose most well-known work includes "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Fall of the House of Usher," "The Gold-Bug" and "The Cask of Amontillado."

"What makes Poe really resonate is that that [dark] place is in all of us," Cusack said of the writer's appeal. "That's why when you look at Kurt Cobain or Edgar Allen Poe or some of these guys who are so tormented and expressive, we all love them because we recognize ourselves in them... Poe expressed all those things - that shadowy part of our consciousness in such a deep way that we're still talking about him and made a movie about him a hundred years later - a hundred and fifty years later."

Cusack will take on several darker roles in the near future, portraying a serial killer opposite Vanessa Hudgens in "The Frozen Ground" and a death row inmate in "The Paperboy," which also stars Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey.

On April 24, Cusack was awarded the 2,469th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His sister and frequent co-star Joan Cusack was on-hand for the event to tease her brother.

Jennifer Hudson family murders trial enters day 4

AP  by MICHAEL TARMCHICAGO, Ill. -- Prosecutors at the Chicago trial of the man accused of killing Jennifer Hudson's family head into their fourth day presenting evidence with no indication they're close to wrapping up their case.

They didn't announce who they'll call to the witness stand Thursday as they continue their bid to prove Hudson's former brother-in-law, William Balfour, killed her mother, brother and nephew in 2008.

The presiding judge has said the trial could last up to a month. And prosecutors' case could last two or three more weeks.

Among the witnesses still expected to testify for prosecutors is one of Balfour's former girlfriends, Shonta Cathey. Prosecutors say he asked her to back up his false alibi on the day of the killings.

Mel Gibson on recent rant: I've got a little bit of a temper

Mel Gibson opened up about his most recent controversy on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and joked with the late night host about his short fuse.

"Maybe you don't know this about me, but I've got a little bit of a temper," Gibson told Jay Leno. "It's been kind of weird over the past few years - it's like living in a bad B-movie... how did I get here? It is bizarre."

Gibson recently made headlines for a rant made against screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, who was attached to the actor's upcoming controversial film about the ancient Jewish hero Judah Maccabee.

Eszterhas, who also wrote the scripts for the movies "Basic Instinct" and "Showgirls," accused the 56-year-old actor of anti-Semitism in a 9-page letter and has posted to the website The Wrap an audio tape of what is supposedly Gibson, yelling and hurling expletives.

"The guy writes a nine-page letter. I mean if he put half as much time and effort and creativity and imagination into a screenplay, which he was supposed to write, as he did into that letter, we wouldn't be having this conversation," Gibson said on the show. "It's kind of like you build a house, you hire a guy to put a roof on it. He comes over and eats lunch and talks about the roof and then you get rained on all night. Wouldn't you get kind of peeved."

The actor's spokesperson declined to comment about the recording. Gibson has struggled to resurrect his career following a 2006 drunk driving arrest, during which he ranted against Jews. He says Eszterhas' description of his "statements and actions" are "utter fabrications."

This wasn't the first Gibson rant to go viral. A taped phone conversation between him and Oksana Grigorieva, which also featured him hurling expletives as well as racist comments, was released to the tabloid website RadarOnline in August 2010 as the two were engaged in a custody battle over their daughter. The actor claims that tape was edited, which his ex-girlfriend denies.

Gibson was charged with misdemeanor battery over a past confrontation with Grigorieva and made a plea deal. He was sentenced to informal probation for 36 months and was also ordered to undergo counseling for anger management and domestic violence prevention, which he completed last month. If he violates his probation, Gibson could face up to a year in prison.

Gibson issued an apology after his infamous 2006 arrest, during which he allegedly said: "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." He pleaded no contest to the DUI charge and was sentenced to three years of probation and underwent alcohol rehabilitation.

Gibson's newest film "Get The Gringo" is slated for release on May 1. In the movie, the actor plays a man who gets himself locked up in a rough Mexican prison and learns to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy.

Sarah Michelle Gellar pregnant with her second child, report says

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. may be growing their family.

The 35-year-old "Ringer" actress is reportedly expecting her second child, Us Weekly Reports. Gellar's spokesperson has not confirmed the report. The magazine quotes a source close to the couple saying "She and Freddie are thrilled."

The two actors first met while filming the 1997 thriller "I Know What You Did Last Summer." They later appeared in two other films together "Scooby-Doo" in 2002 and the sequel, "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed" in 2004.

The couple wed in 2002 and Gellar gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Charlotte Grace, in 2009.

Gellar rose to fame while playing the title role on "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," which ended its run in 2003 after seven seasons and earned her a large fan following. She also starred in the movie "Cruel Intentions" in 1999.

The actress currently stars on "Ringer." Gellar plays Bridget, a recovering addict who goes on the run after witnessing a murder. After her estranged and wealthy twin, Siobhan, disappears mysteriously, Bridget assumes her sister's identity and quickly learns that her sister had her own shocking secrets.

Prinze Jr. had a recurring role on "24" in 2010 and recently got cast in an NBC comedy pilot, Deadline.com reported in March.

Jason Statham talks about working with a child star in 'Safe'

Action star Jason Statham might come off as a tough guy in his films, but "Safe" brought on the actor's softer side as he protects a 10-year-old girl being pursued by gangsters.

In the film, a young girl named Mei (Catherine Chan) is wanted by the Triads, the Russian mob and corrupt New York City cops for her knowledge of a priceless numerical code. A former cage fighter (Statham), whose life was also destroyed by the girl's pursuers, comes to her rescue.

"I think that one of the charming aspects of working with Catherine - and she is only ten - it's that child actors don't have any baggage, you know, they don't have all the layers of falseness that you can build when you spend years being an actor. They have such purity and they don't have any self-consciousness in any way, so they bring something really fresh and it's a pleasure to be around."

The movie, which also stars Robert John Burke, James Hong and Chris Sarandon, was written and directed by Boaz Yakin, who is known for films like "Remember the Titans," "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" and "Uptown Girls."

"The one thing about Boaz [Yakin] is that he wanted to do a lot of the action in one take, so it's a very testing thing to be able to do because there are so many elements that can go wrong. His tenacity to get it right was just brilliant because some of the sequences we did are quite lengthy."

Over the years, Statham has become Hollywood's go-to action actor, with roles in "Snatch," "The Transporter," and "The Expendables."

Statham has a reputation for doing all of his own stunts, which the actor blamed on an early movie where the budget didn't allow for stuntmen.

"Dug my own hole, if you like," Statham told CBS news in January 2011. "One of the first action films I did. We didn't have any -- any financial reserves to do any green screen or add any sort of an enhancement to any of the stunts. So you know, I ended up doing all my own stunts. So now it's an expectation. And so it's a sticky situation I can't seem to get out of."

The British actor is also known for his relationships with two British models - Kelly Brook and Victoria's Secret supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who he has been dating since 2010.

"Safe" hits theaters on April 27, watch a trailer below."

Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine on the truth behind 'Bernie'

Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine want to make sure their theater audience know that their new film "Bernie" is based on a true story.

"Can I just make a quick announcement to anyone watching this broadcast?" Black asked OnTheRedCarpet.com in a recent junket interview for the film. "This is a true story - that will help."

"Bernie," which is slated to hit theaters on April 27, with a wider release on May 4, is based on the true story of mortician and convicted murderer Bernhardt Tiede (Black), who confessed to killing a wealthy 81-year-old widow named Marjorie Nugent (MacLaine) in 1996. Prior to admitting the crime, however, Bernie tried to convince everyone that she was still alive.

In addition to actors like Matthew McConaughey and Veronica Orosco, the film contains clips of actual townspeople who knew the real Bernie, who murdered Nugent in Carthage, Texas in 1996.

"Most of them were real people who knew Bernie and knew the whole thing and weren't actors, but there were also some actors mixed in there," Black said of the cast.

In order to make the dark comedy, Black met with Tiede, who was sentenced to life in prison in 1997. The actor said that his real-life counterpart said there had been no "hanky panky" between him and the widow.

Black said he did not discuss Tiede's sexual preferences during their discussion. According to the Amarillo Globe News, upon the arrest of the charismatic mortician, police found video tapes of him "engaging in homosexual acts" with local married men.

"It helped immensely [to meet Bernie] - just to hear him talk and watch his behavior and to ask him a few questions about his life," Black said. "Those things are big when you're playing a real person."

Meanwhile, it seems like Black and MacLaine had a little love affair of their own, bonding on set.

"When Shirley comes to the set, she comes with her legend but also with an incredible energy," Black said of his co-star. It was a joy every morning to get to work with you."

"It really was fun," MacLaine agreed. "That's what was great about Rick, he let us do our improvisational interaction. God, I don't know what would have happened if I had been working with... who is that terrible comedian in Vegas? If I had been working with him, it would have been a drama, not a comedy."

Snooki's first ultrasound in 'Snooki & JWoww' trailer - Video

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi's first ultrasound is featured in the trailer for her new MTV reality series with "Jersey Shore" co-star Jenni "JWoww" Farley called "Snooki & JWoww."

The 24-year-old is seen in the trailer, which can be viewed below, revealing her pregnancy and engagement to best friend JWoww.

After hearing the news, JWoww asks, "How did this happen?"

"Sex," Snooki replies.

JWoww accompanies Snooki and her fiance Jionni LaValle to the ultrasound. The couple announced her pregnancy in March. "Honestly, I didn't know I can make a baby," Snooki said in the preview. "So the fact that I can reproduce is very scary."

MTV announced on March 19 that it has picked up "Jersey Shore" for a sixth season and that all the cast members will return. The new season will film in the show's original location of Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

"While things will definitely be a little different this time when they hit the boardwalk, their trademark hilarity and family dysfunction will remain the same," MTV's statement said.

It is unclear if Polizzi will be living in the house with her fellow cast members. JWoww and Snooki are not the first cast members to get their own spin-off. Co-star Paul "Pauly D" Delvecchio debuted his show, "The Pauly D Project," in late March.

"Snooki & JWoww" premieres on June 21 at 10 p.m. on MTV. Check out the preview for the show below.

Barbra Streisand celebrates 70th birthday with famous friends

Barbra Streisand celebrated her 70th birthday in Malibu, California on Tuesday night, with a lot of famous friends.

"It was an intimate magical event with only very close friends, people I've known and loved more than 20 years," Streisand told People magazine. "My friends made it an evening of surprises for me, flying in the remarkable Israeli mentalist Lior Suchard and gifting me with the performance of my favorite singer, Johnny Mathis, and many, many more highlights."

Guests included Streisand's stepson Josh Brolin, John Travolta, Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw, Diane Lane, Warren Beatty, Pierce Brosnan, Kenny G and Donna Karan.

The Hollywood legend and 80 guests took over Malibu's Taverna Tony, where they dined on Greek food including hummus, homemade veal sausage, chicken souvlaki, roast baby lamb and Greek peasant salad, according to People.

"The highlight of the evening was my son's film that he made for me," Streisand continued. "People kept asking, 'Who is that singing?' And when I said it was Jason, everyone was blown away by the beauty and soulfulness of his voice. Quincy Jones wanted to sign him on the spot."

In August 2011, Streisand released her 33rd studio album, "What Matters Most," made up of songs written by Oscar-winning songwriting couple Alan and Marilyn Bergman.

The Oscar and Grammy-winning singer has been friends with the couple, who are in their 80s, since she was beginning her musical career in New York in teh 1960s.

Streisand also continues to act as well and recently filmed the comedy movie "My Mother's Curse," which sees her playing the mother of Seth Rogen's character, an inventor. The film also stars Adam Scott and Colin Hanks and is set for release on Nov. 2, 2012.

Tia Mowry: I took 'fun' class with Richard Simmons (Video)

Tia Mowry says she and her twin sister Tamara recently took a group exercise class taught by Richard Simmons, adding that the session was "fun" but got a little "odd" when he asked the participants about their sex lives.

The 63-year-old fitness guru is a pop culture icon who rose to fame in the 1980s. He is known for his "Sweatin' to the Oldies" aerobics videos, upbeat attitude and sense of humor, curly hair and signature workout short-shorts, as well as a slew of flashy costumes. He teaches classes at his own studio, Slimmons, in Beverly Hills, California. Mowry, 33, said the session she and her sister attended was "one of the hardest classes" she has ever taken.

"He is brutal," she told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith. "He is intense. But he's so much fun. He still dresses interesting. He was so much fun. You know what was really odd? He was asking everybody in the class - 'When was the last time you had sex?' I don't know why he was asking that but anyway, it was a fun class," she said.

The actress has been working out to get in shape after giving birth to her and her husband Corey Hardrict's first child, son Cree, last June. Mowry said that aside from Simmons' class, she has also been doing a lot of yoga and cycling. She made her comments on the set of a Vibe Vixen magazine photo shoot earlier this week, before her sister Tamara announced on Wednesday, April 25, that she is expecting her own first child, with husband Adam Houseley.

"I love being a mom - it's definitely the most rewarding experience I've ever had in my entire life," she told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "My son is my motivation he puts a smile on my face every single day - he's my joy."

"Every single day, I look at him - our son - and I say, 'Look what we did. This is a miracle.' You know?" she continued. "It's definitely the biggest gift ever - so we feel very blessed and very grateful."

Gwyneth Paltrow on post-partum depression: I felt like a zombie

Gwyneth Paltrow said that her husband Chris Martin helped her come to terms with her post-partum depression.

Paltrow made her comments in an interview during the premiere of the new Lifetime series, "The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet," telling the host, "I couldn't connect with my son the way that I had with my daughter and I couldn't understand why. I couldn't connect to anyone. I felt like a zombie. I felt very detached."

The 39-year-old Oscar winner and Martin, 35 welcomed their first child, a daughter named Apple, in May 2004. Their son Moses was born in April 2006.

"I just didn't know what was wrong with me. I couldn't figure it out. It never occurred to me," the actress continued. "My husband actually said, 'Something's wrong. I think you have postnatal depression.' I was mortified. 'No I don't!' And then I started researching what it was and the symptoms and I was like, 'Oh, yes I do.'"

"We think that it makes us bad mothers or we didn't do it right, but it's like, we're all in this together," Paltrow said. "I never understand why mothers judge other mothers, like, 'What do you mean you didn't breastfeed? What do you mean you didn't do this?' It's like, 'Can't we all just be on each other's side?' It's so hard anyway. Can't we all help each other get through it?"

Paltrow married Martin, the front man for the British band Coldplay, in December 2003. The couple met shortly after Paltrow's father, who she was very close to, died due to complications from oral cancer and pneumonia. Paltrow told Cadenet that she felt like she never needed a man before her father died because he was everything to her.

"The Conversation" premiered on Lifetime on April 26 and featured intimate celebrity interviews with Jane Fonda, Paltrow, Sarah Silverman and Zoe Saldana, hosted by British TV personality and photographer Amanda de Cadenet. Executive producer Demi Moore joined Cadenet at the series premiere earlier this month.

Paltrow recently finished filming "Thanks for Sharing" opposite Mark Ruffalo, Pink, Tim Robbins and Joely Richardson. The dramatic comedy follows a group of sex addicts who bond over their determination to recover from their addiction.

The actress is also set to reprise her "Iron Man" role as Pepper Potts in "Iron Man 3" and in the spinoff film "The Avengers," which is set for release on May 4, 2012.

Watch a preview for Gwyneth Paltrow's appearance on "The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet" below or the entire episode on Lifetime's website.

Lauren Conrad shows off 'My Little pink' ponytail - See photo

Lauren Conrad debuted a newly-dyed pink ponytail on the final stop on her book tour on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old former star of "The Hills" Tweeted a photo of her "Little (pink) Pony!" on April 24.

Conrad gave fair warning for the change, Tweeting on Tuesday, "Trying to convince [my hair stylist Kristin Ess] to dye my tips fuchsia for tonight's book signing."

Conrad donned the new look on the last stop on her book tour for "The Fame Game," at the Barnes & Noble at the Grove in Los Angeles. Conrad is a New York Times best-selling author and has published four other books including, "L.A. Candy," "Sweet Little Lies," "Sugar and Spice" and "Lauren Conrad: Style." She has also launched websites like LaurenConrad.com and TheBeautyDepartment.com.

Previously, the reality star showed off pale pink and peach-colored dyed ends, which she did after readers of her beauty blog, Beauty Department, voted for the color.

In January 2011, she ditched her blonde locks to go brunette for a few months. Conrad has experimented with a variety of color for her hair, showing off shades of blue, green and purple dip dyed ends in July.

That change came after she and "My Boys" actor Kyle Howard ended their relationship in July 2011 after dating for three years.

Conrad began her TV career at age 17 with the MTV show "Laguna Beach," named after her hometown in Southern California. She went on to star in its spinoff, "The Hills," which depicted her life in Los Angeles and also starred real-life "villain" couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. The show ended in July 2010.

The fashion designer debuted her line, LC by Lauren Conrad in 2009. She also developed the LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's and the Paper Crown fashion labels.

The story is ripped from the headlines in our city as it was more than a hundred years ago when Newsies, the boys who hawked papers on the streets, went out on strike after getting squeezed by rich publishers.

"It was a story about kids. A story where the kids took the action," Harvey Fierstein said.

Fierstein wrote the script to the new show, which is based on real events but began life as a movie musical starring a very young Christian Bale as the leader of the Newsies.

In 1992 nobody cared, but now twenty years later this old flop has inspired a new hit on Broadway.

"The movie's so stupid and so it was restructuring it in a way that I could still get away with all these anthemic songs," Fierstein said.

It was Fierstein who came-up with a love story that was not in the original movie.

"The show is all boys. And, it just felt the female voice wasn't heard enough," he said.

Enter Katherine, a reporter ahead of her time and just right for  jack, played by the charismatic Jeremy Jordan who sings songs so good that they didn't deserve to be forgotten.

"What Newsies does like nothin' else is to please people and make them happy," Fierstein said.

If Harvey seems happy, that's because he takes great pleasure in making a musical work no matter how unlikely the source material. The cult movie called Hairspray inspired his biggest hit.  A flop film inspired his newest one.

"Well, if it's a really great movie, it doesn't need you," he said.

Newsies is from Disney theatricals: owned by the same parent company as WABC-TV. The musical has proved so popular its run as been extended through the summer, and it's a real crowd-pleaser with the crowd giving the company standing ovations during the show.
