"Cabaret" is set in Berlin in 1931, when the Adolf Hitler's Nazi party was gaining power in Germany, and focuses on a British cabaret performer who sings and dances at the Kit Kat Klub and begins a relationship with an American writer. Joel Grey, father of "Dirty Dancing" actress Jennifer Grey, starred as the Emcee in the original Broadway production in 1966. He reprised his role in a 1972 film, which features Liza Minnelli in the lead female role.
Hathaway, an Oscar nominee, starred in the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park production of "Twelfth Night" in 2009. She recently filmed the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical "Les Miserables." She plays Fantine in the movie, whose release date was recently pushed by more than a week to December 25 - Christmas Day (watch a trailer and extended sneak peek video below).
Hathaway made her Broadway debut in March 2005 when she performed "Kiss Me," from Stephen Sondheim's musical "Sweeney Todd," with several others at the "Children And Art" event celebrating the famous composer's 75th birthday. The actress has also sung in films, such as "Ella Enchanted" and the animated movie "Rio."
