Etta James is terminally ill, doctor asks fans to pray for her

Etta James has been battling leukemia for several years and her live-in doctor has declared that she is terminally ill and is asking fans to pray for the singer.

James, who is best known for her songs "At Last" and "Tell Mama," has been undergoing treatment for leukemia and was also diagnosed with dementia and kidney failure. She has been in and out of the hospital for the past few years.

Dr. Elaine James, who is not related to the singer, and has been caring for her since March 2010 told the Riverside Press-Enterprise newspaper that James' chronic leukemia was deemed incurable two weeks ago, according to the Associated Press.

The doctor made her comments at a Riverside, Calif. conservatorship hearing over James' $1 million estate. The singer's son Donto James is engaged in a court battle with James' husband Artis Mills for conservatorship of the estate.

The 73-year-old entertainer was the target of a death hoax in August, after a fake TMZ story was posted on a hoax site.

James was last on tour three years ago and overcame drug addiction and weight problems.
